  1. 25 or 40 watt soldering iron/gun for guitar electronics?

Apr 29, 2009 · Pfft. I have a soldering station and I still use my Rat Shack 15/30w switchable pencil iron for really small stuff. It has a super pointy tip and my soldering station iron doesn't. It has what they call a pencil tip but it's rounded. I have a spare for it, so I may sharpen it with my Dremel and see how long the point lasts.

  2. Replacing pickups without soldering - Harmony Central

Nov 26, 2006 · They will work as long as you use connectors of the appropriate wire gause, but as said before.. they will occupy a lot of space in your electronics cavity. Soldering will provide a much neater and more secure connection. Also, as far as changing pickups out again later, butt connectors will waste just as much or more wire.

  3. Any way to wire a guitar without soldering? - Electric Guitars ...

Mar 7, 2008 · you can crimp it with some sort of blade or bullet connector im guessing, but im honestly gonna say soldering is normally the best way that your wire doesnt disconnect at the connection point, i also dont know if it will affect tone or anything cuz ive never done it before... maybe someone else could further help you with any problems with that decision good luck

  4. Low heat solder strips. Anybody ever hear of them?

May 25, 2011 · The trick to soldering is to heat the metal of the connection THEN add solder and it will flow around the connection and bond the metals atomically. Using a solder strip will 9 times out of ten cause a cold solder joint because you're melting the solder before the metal below is hot enough to bond with it.

  5. Can too much heat (solder iron) damage guitar pots?

Apr 10, 2007 · You betcha! It is best to use a powerful enough soldering iron/gun to make quick work of it. The longer you apply heat, the more likely you are to do damage. On the other hand, apply to much heat with a powerful soldering gun is very damaging. I am hoping you didn't already find this out on your own. -Ron

  6. How to strip insulation on very thin wires? - Harmony Central

Jan 7, 2010 · Im assuming you will be soldering this.. So if you are soldering, just use the tip of the iron to burn off the coating, and the wire will be in perfect condition..

  7. Speaker Wiring: quick connect clips VS soldering

Feb 28, 2009 · the speaker jack is pretty much a "quick connect clip" as it is, so you don't really lose anything using them on the speaker terminals as long as you make sure they're good and tight. they certainly make life easier if you plan on swapping out speakers.

  8. PCB vs Point to Point Wiring - Effects - Harmony Central

Jun 27, 2014 · In older electronic devices (including most vintage Fender amps), vulcanized fiberboard eyelet boards were often used to mount the electronic components. They require hand insertion of the various parts and hand soldering, so considerable human labor is involved with this manufacturing approach. Fiberboards have their share of issues.

  9. Wiring question: ground from volume or tone pot?

Apr 23, 2009 · Working on a tele project and I am sitting here soldering it. Bought a SD Vintage Stack single coil and a SD lil '59 humbucker. One diagram shows the ground coming off the tone pot and going to the bridge, the other diagram shows is coming off the volume pot. Which diagram is right, and does it r...

  10. Working on a electric guitar with 2 humbuckers, 1 volume, 1 tone, …

Mar 7, 2025 · 1) when soldering to the pot shell, flatten the wire before you tin it. [a quick squeeze with a pair of pliers will do it]. 2) Where you have not folded back the lug, hook the wires and solder them to the jumper lead rather than the shell; or if the lug is folded, hook the wires and solder to the lug
