When a defensive player interferes with an eligible receiver, the official may extend one arm fully to indicate the penalty. When signaling the Pass Interference penalty the referee will raise their hands/arms to chest level with palms facing out and do a pushing motion.

The signal for offensive pass interference is achieved by the referee by extending both arms out in front, with their hands facing upwards. This is the same signal for defensive pass interference.

To make the defensive pass interference signal, the referee will raise both arms to their chest with their palms facing out, then make an outward pushing motion. The referee will then point with their hand to which side of the ball the interference was committed by: in this case, the defense.
