The "out" signal is with the Line Judge standing fully upright with the flag at full height. This signal is given only by the Line Judge (s) whose line (s) the ball passed over. The "touch" signal is with the flag vertical in front of the body with the hand on top of the flag just below the chin.

The Line Judge performs their function by using flags to signal: The ball ‘in’ and ‘out’ whenever the ball lands near their line(s) The touches of ‘out’ balls by the team receiving the ball The ball touching the antenna, the served ball and the third hit of the team crossing the net outside the crossing space, etc.

When the ball is out of bounds, the signal is to hold the hands or flag up. The referee’s signal is to hold both hands straight up, hands open and flat, palms facing their own body. If the ball is in bounds, the signal is to point the hands or flag down toward the middle of the court or the sideline.

When the ball crosses the space outside the antenna, the line judge will raise the flag and wave the flag in the air while pointing the finger to the antenna. This signals to the officials the ball is "out". FOOT FAULT SIGNAL. The line judge needs to watch for the server stepping on the end line when serving.

The flags should be solid red in color and of a recommended size of approximately 12 inches by 12 inches to approximately 16 inches by 16 inches. The flag and hand grip should be securely affixed to the pole. INBOUNDS – Point the flag down and toward the middle of the court OUT-OF-BOUNDS – Raise the flag, arm extended.
