The flag of Jamaica was adopted on August 6, 1962. It consists of a yellow diagonal cross with green above and below and black on either side (these three colors are Pan-African colors). The width is twice the length. The yellow in this flag represents the sun. The green represents the land. The black represents hardship.

The flag consists of a gold saltire, which divides the flag into four sections: two of them green (top and bottom) and two black (hoist and fly). It is currently the only national flag that does not contain a shade of the colours red, white, or blue.

The design was modified to the now familiar black, green, and gold. The Flag has a diagonal cross or saltire with four triangles in juxtaposition. The cross is in GOLD and the width of each of its bends (arms) is one-sixth of the length of the fly of the flag; the top and bottom triangles are in GREEN; and the hoist and fly triangles are BLACK.
