Other venues include Horton Field House in Bloomington-Normal, Illinois, USA; Cobo Hall in Detroit, Michigan, USA; Hara Arena in Dayton, Ohio, USA; Dane County Coliseum in Madison, Wisconsin, USA; and Myriad Centre in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA.

While a number of the other moneymaking avenues failed to take off, by the summer of 1976, two large jai alai frontons opened in Hartford and Bridgeport, and quickly emerged as the premier legal gambling sites in the state. In 1977, a third jai alai fronton opened in Milford.

Oddly baroque in style, the striking Frontón Palacio Jai Alai dates from 1926 and for decades hosted the fast-moving ball game of jai alai – a sort of hybrid between squash and tennis, originating in Spain's Basque country. A strike by players combined with lack of attendance led to its closure. Today it's a massive music venue.

One Florida fan summarized the feeling of those who had avidly participated in and watched the sport. “It’s heartbreaking, I mean I follow the sport all my life, I play amateur jai alai and I think it’s one of the greatest sports in the world,” Julio Rosales told NBC Miami.
