Tip or Nose Cone: Commonly referred to as the tip of the pen, the nose cone is a metal or plastic piece that holds the tip of the ink cartridge in position when the cartridge is extended for writing.

The part of the nib that makes contact with paper is the tip. The slit is a thin cut along the center of the nib that brings the ink from the pen to the tip. It also divides the nib into two or more tines which taper to the tip. A nib’s shoulders are the widest points.
