Unlike slow-pitch softball, the goal in fast-pitch softball is to throw the ball fast to strike out the hitter every time. To learn how to pitch, start by properly setting up on the pitcher’s plate. Then, use the proper fast-pitch techniques to build momentum and throw the ball as fast and accurately as you can.

There are two types: a four-seam fastball and a two-seam fastball, named based upon how many seams you see if the ball is spinning toward you. The four-seam will be your fastest, most consistent pitch and the only fastball you should be concerned with as a beginner, until you can throw strikes 60 percent of the time.
