    It was then officially named Regiment of Hussars nr. 1. The volunteers were of very mixed origin, some of them had served in the armies of the United Provinces (Hussars Van Heeckeren) the Batavian Republic, the Kingdom of Holland and the French Empire and formed a core of hardened and experienced horsemen.
