  1. Brookhaven was founded in 1818 by Samuel Jayne. It was named after Brookhaven, New York. The area was first settled in the 1850s. The first railroad entered the city in 1858. It is the county seat of Lincoln County, which was established in 1870 and was named in the honor of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th U.S. President.
