    The International Date Line, located at 180° longitude, divides the Earth into the Eastern and Western Hemispheres. As we cross this line, we either add or subtract a day depending on the direction of our travel. When going west, we add a day, and when going east, we subtract a day.
    The international date line, established in 1884, passes through the mid-Pacific Ocean and roughly follows a 180 degrees longitude north-south line on the Earth. It is located halfway around the world from the prime meridian — the 0 degrees longitude line in Greenwich, England.
