Hybrid bikes with suspension are normally intended for use on mixed surfaces including cycle paths and tracks as well. The suspension fork is designed to absorb some of the shocks, making for a more comfortable ride. This can be handy on badly maintained roads, as well as off-road sections.

A hybrid bike does not always necessarily need suspensions. It needs suspensions when it is used for riding on moderately rough or unpaved trails. If it is used for commuting a short distance then buying a hybrid bike with suspensions is a worthwhile decision. However, for regular use and commuting long-distance, suspensions are not needed.

Hybrid bikes do not always have suspensions because it is heavier (about 4.5lbs – 2kg) and make pedaling less efficient. Some of your energy is dampened via the shock absorber. Front suspensions are not necessary for all riders: depends on terrain, type of riding, profile of the cyclist.
