Regularly clean your home's gutter systems to remove debris. Attach extension pipes to your downspouts to direct water away from your home's foundation. Add extra compact soil near your foundation to create a gentle, 2–3 feet (0.61–0.91 m) slope that leads water away.

Some of the ways to redirect water away from the foundation are: Having a proper gutter system. Installing a french drain. Adding a dry well or a garden. Downspout extensions. Adding gravel to the yard. Installing a sump pump. Creating a slope.

Start by checking if the ground slopes away from your foundation. If it does, create swales or dry creek beds to channel water or add plants and mulch to absorb excess water. You can also install permeable paving materials to improve drainage.
