We visited Chesters Fort in 2022 and decided to go to Housesteads this time to see different scenery, etc. The museum at Chesters is better and larger, but the views and visualisations from Housestea… Full review by nessief

Fascinating ruins that you can walk around and learn the history of Roman occupation.. Probably a 1km easy walk from the car park - does include hills but easy to walk. There is a cafe and toilets… Full review by Temac1970

A:
No you don’t have to go in the museum as that’s optional. But you do need to pay for the wall etc unless you are a member of English heritage or national trust . Hope this helps x

Its a steady uphill walk, took us 15 mins. There is a roadway, i assume for people with mobility difficulties.

Is the car park here open after the closing hours of the Roman Fort? My husband and I plan on visiting here but will be arriving later in the day. We will tour the fort first during operational hours but probably will not have time to visit Hadrians Wall before the Fort Closes. We were wondering does the car park also close or can we leave our car parked in the lot while we visit Hadrian's Wall?

I'm sure you can as the actual wall is free to visit. Not sure if you have to pay for parking though out of hours . There are meters so suspect that you have to.
