Today marks the 44th anniversary of the birth of Hip Hop, and Google has created a Doodle to celebrate the music genre that launched a cultural revolution. The doodle doubles as an interactive turntable and includes a tutorial recorded by Hip Hop icon (and YO! MTV Raps host) Fab 5 Freddy.

In honor of the 44 th anniversary of the birth of hip-hop, today’s interactive doodle is basically a super stripped-down version of FruityLoops that teaches users how to mix samples from tracks that were instrumental to hip-hop’s early days, like George Clinton’s “ Atomic Dog ” or The Lafayette Afro Rock Band’s “ Darkest Light.”

On August 11, 1973, there was a party at 1520 Sedgwick Avenue in the Bronx—and four decades later, we’re still talking about it. Today’s Google Doodle celebrates the 44th anniversary of that party, which is widely credited as the birth of the Hip Hop movement.
