The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 (Pub. L. 111–296 (text) (PDF)) is a federal statute signed into law by President Barack Obama on December 13, 2010. The law is part of the reauthorization of funding for child nutrition (see the original Child Nutrition Act).

The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 authorizes funding for federal school meal and child nutrition programs and increases access to healthy food for low-income children. The bill that reauthorizes these programs is often referred to by shorthand as the child nutrition reauthorization bill.

The signing of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act into law is a long-awaited victory for the 31 million students who participate in federal school meal programs. By giving the USDA the authority to update standards for all foods and beverages in schools, this new law says unhealthy foods have no place in our nation’s schools.

The Act provides for improved access to nutrition assistance through program expansion, outreach, and provisions that make it easier for children to get nutritious meals when they are away from home. The Act will not only improve the nutrition quality of school meals, but will improve the entire nutrition environment in schools.
