The Biden administration said Wednesday it would make $4.5 billion available to help lower heating costs this winter through a low-income home energy assistance program. The funds will go to heating and utility bill costs, and will also be available to help families make home energy repairs aimed at lowering costs, the White House said.

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps keep families safe and healthy through initiatives that assist families with energy costs. LIHEAP provides federally funded assistance to reduce the costs associated with home energy bills, energy crises, weatherization, and minor energy-related home repairs.

Today, the White House is announcing that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will release more than $385 million to states to help families and individuals with their home energy costs – including summer cooling – through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).
