  1. Buffon spent most of his career in Turin, despite a stint at PSG in 2018-19. In total he made a record 657 appearances in the Italian top flight and is the most-capped goalkeeper of all time with 176 appearances for Italy. Buffon retired from international football in 2018 after Italy failed to qualify for the World Cup that year.

    Widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers to play the game, Buffon began in the mid-1990s with Parma, before really making his name during a 17-year stint at Juventus. He returned for a second spell at the Old Lady after a short time with PSG and ended his career back at Parma, making 19 appearances for the Serie B side last term.
