In Java, an enum (short for enumeration) is a special type that represents a group of constants. Enums are used when we know all possible values at compile time, such as choices on a menu, rounding modes, command-line flags, etc. Enums were introduced in Java 5 and are considered a special type of class12.
Declaring an Enum
Enums are declared using the enum keyword. Here is an example:
enum Size {SMALL, MEDIUM, LARGE, EXTRALARGE}In this example, Size is an enum with four constants: SMALL, MEDIUM, LARGE, and EXTRALARGE1.
Using Enums
You can create variables of enum types and assign them values. For example:
