If two or more fractions have the same denominator, they are called “like fractions.” For example, 2 5, 4 5, 1 5, 3 5 are like fractions. If two or more fractions have different denominators, they are called “unlike fractions.” For example, 2 5, 4 3, 1 2, 3 7 are unlike fractions.

Fractions having the same denominator are known as like fractions. For example, 1/2, 3/2, and 5/2 are like fractions with a common denominator 2. Such fractions show parts of the whole divided equally into the exact same parts, for an instance, 1/2 implies 1 part out of 2, 3/2 implies 3 parts out of 2, and 5/2 implies 5 parts out of 2.

The fractions which have the same denominator are called like fractions. i.e. their denominators are equal. For example, if we have a group of fractions such as 1/5, 2/5, 3/5, 4/5. Since the denominators of each of the fractions are the same i.e. 5, they are like fractions.

Like fractions are fractions with the same integers in the denominators. 1/5, 2/5 6/5, and 6/5 are all fractions with denominators of 5. We can easily perform the addition and subtraction of like fractions. As the denominator is the same, all we need to do is to add or subtract the numerator. Example: ⅕ + ⅗ = (1+3)/5 = ⅘.

When two or more fractions have the same denominator, they are called like fractions. $ {dfrac {2} {3}}$, $ {dfrac {5} {3}}$, and $ {dfrac {7} {3}}$ are a few examples of like fractions. Thus, we can easily compare and perform arithmetic operations such as addition and subtraction involving like fractions.
