Enums in C# are a special type of value type that allows you to define a set of named constants. They are used to represent a collection of related values in a more readable and maintainable way. Enums are defined using the enum keyword and can be used to create a group of constants that are related to each other.
Defining Enums
To define an enum, you use the enum keyword followed by the name of the enum and a list of its members. By default, the underlying type of each member is int, and the values start from 0 and increment by 1. Here is an example:
enum Season{Spring,Summer,Autumn,Winter}You can also specify the underlying type and assign specific values to the members:
enum ErrorCode : ushort{None = 0,Unknown = 1,ConnectionLost = 100,OutlierReading = 200}Using Enums
You can access enum members using the dot syntax. For example:
Season currentSeason = Season.Summer;Console.WriteLine(currentSeason); // Output: Summer Enumeration types - C# reference | Microsoft Learn
