The 2024 leave year ends PP 2025-02, January 11, 2025. Employees in the six-hour leave category will get their extra four hours in PP 2025-01, the last full pay period of the calendar year. The 2025 leave year is from PP 2025-03, January 12, 2025, through PP 2026-02, January 10, 2026.

The first retirement date is December 28,2024 (for most federal agencies, the end of pay period 25 for leave year 2024) and the second retirement date is January 11,2025 (for most federal agencies, the end of pay period 26 for leave year 2024).

A leave year begins on the first day of the first full biweekly pay period in a calendar year, and ends on the day immediately before the first day of the first full biweekly pay period in the following calendar year. For most federal employees, the 2023 leave year ends on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2024.

Thanks to a calendar quirk, most federal employees will have a few extra hours of leave this year. Federal employees will have 27 pay periods for the 2023 leave year, instead of the usual 26, since the leave calendar started for most agencies on January 1, 2023, and ends on January 13, 2024.
