In 1994, the renowned film director and producer Steven Spielberg, former head of Disney Jeffrey Katzenberg, and music producer David Geffen founded the DreamWorks animation studio. The idea of logo with a fishing boy sitting on the Moon belonged to Spielberg, who wanted the emblem to associate with the golden age of Hollywood.

The Man in the Moon is the symbol of DreamWorks. He is show to be a boy, sitting on the moon, and casting a fishing rod out. In Rise of the Guardians, he is the Master of the Guardians.

At the time, Dennis Murren, a visual effects supervisor and filmmaker, suggested that the DreamWorks logo be recreated in painted form. Artist Robert Hunt was brought on board to create the new design, and he ultimately drew a boy sitting on a crescent moon fishing.

DreamWorks has its Trademark, a moon with a child (generally a boy) fishing from it. The company's works often play with the skyline, put the boy through some sort of misery related to the story, or replace the boy with a character from the work.

Initially, they wanted to make the logo of the new company using computer graphics. It was supposed to depict a man fishing, but the artists persuaded them to use traditional drawing methods.After the logo was ready, one of the artists created an alternative version. On it, a man fishing on the moon was replaced by a boy.
