Tatooine worlds, or circumbinary planets, are exoplanets that exist in star systems with two stars, also known as binary star systems. As a result, an observer standing on one of these planets' surfaces would see two suns in the sky and experience a pair of sunsets, just like Luke Skywalker on the fictional planet of Tatooine.

Study proves ground-based telescopes can search for planets with two suns. Astronomers have used a new technique to confirm a real-life Tatooine, the fictional planet with two suns that was home to Luke Skywalker in “Star Wars.” The planet, Kepler-16b, is about 245 light years from Earth, is a gas giant, and is roughly the size of Saturn.

The outer planet, Kepler-47c, has 4.6 times Earth’s diameter and a year of 303.2 Earth days. With binary stars at their center, the Kepler-47 planets have two suns like Tatooine, the fictional home world of Luke Skywalker in the "Star Wars" universe.
