When we talk about the balls dropping, we are referring to the process of the testicles descending from the abdomen into the scrotum. This typically occurs during puberty, usually between the ages of 9 and 14. The descent of the testicles is a sign that the male reproductive system is developing as it should.

In most cases, they drop into the scrotum before birth. Testicles that don’t drop (called undescended testicles) may require surgery.

During the final months of development, the testicles gradually descend into the scrotum. If this descent isn't completed at birth, the testicle usually descends within a few months. If your son has a retractile testicle, the testicle originally descended as it should, but doesn't remain in place.

In many cases, the testicle may drop into the scrotum on its own and remain in that position for some time.
