Existential phenomenology —focuses on understanding the audience’s experiences through their perspective. Hermeneutic phenomenology —focuses on creating meaning from experiences through the audience’s perspective. Transcendental phenomenology —focuses on how the phenomenon appears in one consciousness on a broader, scientific scale.

There are two types of phenomenology: descriptive and interpretive phenomenology. In descriptive phenomenology, the essence of an experience is described. Inter- pretive phenomenology is also called hermeneutic phenomenology. Herme- neutics is the science of interpretation. Interpretation is viewed as critical to understanding.
