SHARE TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — YouTube, which is owned by Google, is currently testing a new layout, which is a big change from the old interface. The new layout moves the comments section to the right side of the video player, where related videos used to be — and away from a spot they’ve been for nearly two decades.

After first appearing earlier this year, YouTube once again appears to be rolling out a new redesign for its website that everyone hates. In mid-April, Google started testing a redesign to YouTube’s website, which moved the title of the video, its description, and the comments to the side of the screen.

YouTube has announced a raft of new UI updates, designed to make it easier to control your viewing experience, which will likely lead to significant experience improvements, in a range of ways, without upending the entire YouTube interaction process.

The layout even cemented the phrase “the description down below” among others in videos for years and years now. But, earlier this month, YouTube started testing a major redesign for its website which saw the video title, description, and comments shoved to the sidebar, with bigger and more prominent video recommendations below the current video.

On February 21st, 2024, the YouTube UI update began to appear for desktop users. The redesign seemed to include increased embedded ad placements, a tall, small-font comment section on the right side of the page and search results and recommendations that take up much of the page, even while videos are playing.
