Plague a "stroke" of affliction, or disease. Sent as a divine chastisement (Numbers 11:33 ; 14:37 ; 16:46-49 ; 2 Sam 24:21). Painful afflictions or diseases, (Leviticus 13:3 Leviticus 13:5 Leviticus 13:30 ; 1 Kings 8:37), or severe calamity (Mark 5:29 ; Luke 7:21), or the judgment of God, so called (Exodus 9:14).

Affliction with disease, destruction or environmental disaster as an expression of divine judgment, usually resulting in death. The purpose may be as a punishment or to encourage repentance.

So what is a “plague” as it is referred to in Mark 5:29? It is an ailment, sickness, or affliction that regularly strikes an individual again and again. It is a recurring condition that is not serious enough to kill but that continually keeps the individual sick and miserable.
