In Tableau, a view is a visualization or "viz" that you create to represent your data. A view can take various forms, such as charts, graphs, maps, plots, or even text tables. The primary purpose of a view is to help you explore and analyze your data visually1.
Components of a View
A view in Tableau consists of several key components:
Headers: Created when you place a dimension or discrete field on the Rows or Columns shelves. Headers display the member names of each field on the shelves1.
Axes: Created when you add a measure or continuous field to the Rows or Columns shelves. The values of the measure field are displayed along a continuous axis1.
Panes: Defined by the intersection of fields on the rows and columns shelves. Panes can contain one or more cells that belong to the same field1.
Cells: The basic components of any table, defined by the intersection of a row and a column1.
Marks: Represent the intersection of all the dimensions in the view. Marks can be displayed in various ways, such as lines, shapes, bars, maps, etc. The Marks card controls the type and properties of marks1.
