Circle theory is a geographical profiling technique proposed by Canter and Larkin in 1993. The theory is based on the assumption that criminals will commit crime in areas they know and not exactly where they live. The theory suggests that if all the crimes that an offender committed were placed in a circle, then the criminal is likely to reside within that circle. The diameter of the circle is the distance between the two furthermost crimes. The circle consists of the smallest area incorporating all the crimes.
