  1. Lagos State is one of the 36 states in Nigeria and is located in the southwestern region of the country. The state was created on May 27, 1967, by the then-military government of Nigeria, led by General Yakubu Gowon. Before it became a state, Lagos was the federal capital of Nigeria and was known as the Federal Territory of Lagos.
