MIPS helmets have an extra layer inside that sits over your head like a loose beanie. This allows the helmet to slide minimally during impact to redirect rotating forces. The MIPS layer adds a little bit of weight compared to the same model non-MIPS helmet. The difference is usually 25-50 grams.
