A high risk of avalanche in much of Western Canada has prompted road closures along Highway 1 in B.C. and warnings for regions across the province. As of Wednesday at noon, the Trans Canada Highway is closed between Revelstoke and one kilometre east of Golden.

Highway 1: The Trans Canada Highway between Lytton and Spences Bridge is closed due to a rock slide. There is no estimated reopening time, but DriveBC will provide an update on Dec. 8. Highway 1 is also closed between Lytton and Jackass Mountain Summit with the exception of local and essential travel only, due to flooding and a mudslide.

The province is warning drivers that Highway 1 outside of Hope, B.C., will be closed 10 times a day, between 20 and 35 minutes each, over the next six weeks in order to complete work meant to prevent rockfalls in the area.
