In legal cases, an admonition is a formal verbal statement made during a trial by a judge to advise and caution the jury on their duty as jurors, on the admissibility or nonadmissibility of evidence, or on the purpose for which any evidence admitted may be considered by them. It can also be a warning to a defendant that something is not to take place, or that it should take place, and if the defendant fails to obey what the judge has warned them of, then a more severe punishment will be handed down. Admonition can also be a type of punishment by which an accused person will be discharged after warning him/her that if the offense is committed again s/he would be punished with severity.
