The Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team have been shaking up the MotoGP grid since unleashing their iconic bikes on the premier category of two-wheeled racing in 2017. KTM entered the premier MotoGP category with the newly developed KTM RC16 in 2017 and has since been developing its machine in an arena that demands the highest technical know-how.

In September 2014, Pit Beirer announced that KTM were to start in MotoGP for 2017, even though work on the project had not started. A year and a half before their MotoGP debut, KTM tested their V4 engine for the first time, a configuration designed to use a steel trellis frame chassis only used by this team.

KTM RC4 equipment has registered five titles and 80 victories in the Moto3™ category since the inception of the division in 2012 and the technical base of the bike has been responsible for emerging talent progression in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup, the Northern Talent Cup and the Austrian Junior Cup.
