  1. B is a computer language intended for recursive, primarily non-numeric applications typified by system programming. B has a small, unrestrictive syntax that is easy to compile. Because of the unusual freedom of expression and a rich set of operators, B programs are often quite compact.

    B is an interpreted programming language for mini-computers, a direct descendant of BCPL and ancestor of C. B was developed at AT&T Bell Telephone Laboratories and published in 1969. The development was done mainly by Ken Thompson, with some assistance from Dennis Ritchie.
    B is a programming language which was the original high-level language for Unix. Although B sees very little use today, it was the language which C evolved from; this fact, at least, makes it of historical interest.
